After a Brief Hiatus... I am BACK!

Alright, so classes starting hit me like a ton of bricks! Spending 3 weeks in Europe with basically no responsibilities made me think I was on a semester long vacation, which is definitely not the case at all. My days no longer consist of galavanting and drinking my way through the city, but having a routine is a welcome addition. My roommate Grace arrived since the last blog post, and me, Samuel, and Troy showed her some of our favorite places we discovered in the first couple weeks of being here! We got to take in the scenic views and just enjoy spending time with each other, and I'm so grateful to have found people I get along with so well!

Now don't let the video fool you: I am certainly not so bubbly and energetic every single day of the week. Especially now that classes have started I got humbled in my math abilities real quick. There have been many tears about how difficult my classes are, and I am sure they will only grow in number over the semester. Being here is not just sunshine and rainbows, but I'm trying my best to have as many of those moments as possible because I can't express enough how truly grateful I am to be here and have this opportunity!

Now for all my math people, you're probably wondering what classes I'm taking, so here you go! I will be taking Intro to Abstract Algebra, Intro to Combinatorics, Theory of Computing, and Hungarian Art & Culture. I had to have a balance with the math classes because I assure you my brain has never been this confused so quickly in classes before! For those who are less versed in the mathematical world, Hungary is known for their contributions to the fields of combinatorics and graph theory, so taking combinatorics while here was a no brainer. In fact, Paul Erdős - who has been regarded as one of the most prolific mathematicians of the 20th century - contributed greatly to the field of combinatorics and is one of the founders of this very program!

Well, now it's time for me to hit the books and get serious about my mathematical studies here. But golly, how lucky I am to say that I get to study math in the beautiful city of Budapest - all of the stresses will be infinitely worth it!

xoxo, Mackenzie

An Ode to Advanced Mathematics

Wow... the math has only seemed to get harder as the semester has gone on. I thought after midterms I would have a break until finals,...
