Another blog post, another country! This time we took on Prague, which gave me major Budapest vibes, just with more tourists, less trash on the ground, and oddly way quieter. Before I decided to study in Budapest, I was heavily considering going to Prague and I was not disappointed by the beauty of the city!
Me, Shayar, Eashan, Drake, and Cara traveled for 8 hours by FlixBus. To say it was the most comfortable experience would be a big contradiction: these seats are not made for people with long legs! But once we got to our Air BnB, the activities commenced! Cara was excited to show us all the most successful animated film in Czech history: Goat Story. The movie was a total feverdream and while watching it on little to no sleep made us delirious and it was an even better experience. You can watch it for free here and I highly recommend because it is one of the funniest, most chaotic movies I have ever seen. And we got to see all of the landmarks and monuments from the movie in real life which was a fun little "I Spy" game to play!
We then spent all of Saturday exploring the city seeing all the famous sights: the astronomical clock, Charles bridge, Prague Castle, old town sqaure, the Black Church, and so many more things I can't remember the names of! The city itself was extremely walkable, so most of these sights were in the same general area which made it very convenient to see everything the city had to offer. There were so many cute shops and cafes, and I even got Shayar and I matching paintings by a famous Prague artist. They are known for a grayscale scene and a pop of red, so I got a painting of a couple dancing on the street with a red umbrella since that's basically us in every country :) This day was really nice compared to other trips because there wasn't a sense of urgency to get from one place to the next. We could just leisurely walk and see the city and take in the views without having to rush in order to make the next activity. The view over the river was gorgeous, and Charles bridge was definitely one of my favorite parts of the city.
Sunday morning we all went to mass at the Church of the Infant Jesus which was a very fulfilling experience! I was the only Catholic in the group and for those of you who know me, I am very proud to be Catholic and am willing to answer any and all questions. So when I offered for them to come to mass with me, they all agreed since they had never been to a Catholic mass before and it made my heart so happy. It was really nice to show them more about my culture and how I grew up, and for them to admire all of the beauty that was around us in the church. The Infant Jesus statue was surrounded by the shiniest gold and silver and was a great spot for adoration. We grabbed brunch after mass and then headed towards the Dancing House! It was a wobbly house indeed, and Shayar and I decided to go up to the rooftop bar to get a panoramic view of the city! We met up with everyone else to look at the crypts in the city that were utilized during WWII. I read about them and the history, but still couldn't tell you what their purpose was lol. We ended the trip by going to a park where Shayar's outfit matched the leaves!
In the midst of the stress of midterms, this trip was a really nice mental reset and I hadn't traveled with this group before so the dynamics were super fun and exciting! Of course I had my faves Shayar and Eashan as my travel buddies, but Drake is my bestie frfr and Cara is the absolute sweetest person, so the group as a whole was quite fun! Then we got back and reality really hit us in the face which was far from ideal, but so is life as an adult. Next up is my Romania trip blog, so get HYPED for that... the Joker and Harley Quinn may or may not be making an appearance....
